“Annie” won both the New York Drama Critics’ and Tony Awards for Best Musical, along with six other Tony’s, after its first Broadway season (1976/1977). It then went on to meet with similar success when it arrived in London in 1978. The show was based on the cartoon strip Little Orphan Annie by Harold Gray, with music by Charles Strouse (Bye Bye Birdie, Applause) and lyrics by Martin Charnin.

A firm favourite with both adults and children, this family musical has found success the world over. Alongside the film version, regular West End and touring productions are never far away. And with hit songs like Tomorrow, You’re Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile, I Think I’m Gonna Like It Here, and It’s A Hard Knock Life, the crossover appeal of which, gave JAY Z chart success recently, it can truly be considered a musical of universal appeal.
